Hyaline cartilage (fetal ribs cross-sections) showing left: chondrocytes, middle: chondrocyte swelling /hypertrophy and cell degeneration, right: invasion of cartilage matrix by capillaries that introduce bone-forming cells (osteoblasts) and bone marrow cells. The replacement of cartilage with bone tissue is called endochondral ossification. Magnification x200 when printed 10cm height.
