Lloyd Berkner (1905-1967), US physicist and engineer, in his office. Berkner is best known as one of the inventors of the measuring device that since has become standard for measuring the Earth's ionosphere. Along with L.C. Marshall he advanced a theory to describe the way in which the atmospheres of the solar system's inner planets had evolved. Photographed in 1958.
