Demange and Dreyfus in court. French lawyer Edgar Demange (1841-1925, top) defending French artillery officer Alfred Dreyfus (1859-1935) in court, Rennes, France. Demange was, with Fernand Labori, the lawyer of Alfred Dreyfus during his trials in 1894 and 1899. The 'Dreyfus Affair' was a political scandal that became one of the most tense political dramas in modern French history. It remains one of the most striking examples of a complex miscarriage of justice, where a major role was played by the press and public opinion.
