These kitchen waste items, mainly fruit and uncooked vegetable peelings, egg-shells, tea bags, etc., will decompose to a valuable fertiliser and soil improver in about 9 to 12 month's time. It can be made by leaving the waste material in a bin or in a heap which provides access to oxygen helping the waste to decompose aerobically. Recycling kitchen waste in domestic compost bins has environmental and economic benefits and promotes biological diversity by increasing the worm population, including rarer species such as slow worms.
