Ankylosaurus and young. Computer illustration of an adult and young Ankylosaurus sp. dinosaur. This heavily-armoured herbivorous dinosaur lived around 125 to 65 million years ago, during the early Mesozoic era of the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, in what is now North America. It possessed a heavy club-like tail, which could be swung at attackers to injure their legs. Full-grown adults could grow to around 6 to 9 metres long, and weigh over 6 tonnes.
