Human retina. Light microscope footage showing a section through the retina of the human eye, beginning at the fovea, and then moving upwards out of the foveal region. The inner surface of the retina is to the right, and the outer choroid layer is to the left. To the right of the brown pigmented layer is the photoreceptor layer of light-sensitive rods and cones. The fovea is a depression in the retinal surface where the photoreceptor layer is composed of densely-packed colour-sensitive cones, for sharp central vision. The area lacks blood vessels and its inner layers are pushed laterally, presenting less of a barrier to light. Magnification unknown.
