PCR assay in a microbiology lab. Microbiologists performing a real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay using a 96-well plate. PCR produces large amounts of replicated DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) or RNA (ribonucleic acid) molecular sequences. Using this process, very small amounts of these nucleic acid molecules can be analysed upon the completion of the replication process.
