Light micrograph of a section through the lining (mucosa) of the cervix of a woman's uterus, showing koilocytes - abnormal epithelial cells with vacuoles around the cellular nucleus. The presence of these cells demonstrates the presence of a viral infection usually by human papillomavirus (HPV). Magnification: x560, when printed 10 centimetres wide.
