Aerial photograph of Sand dunes, Namib desert, Namibia. It rains only every few years in the Namib desert. The moisture that accumulates in the troughs of the linear dunes allows a few stunted shrubs to survive. Grass seeds that have lain dormant in the sand start to sprout and cover the troughs between the dunes in a carpet of tender blades of grass.
