Caption

Solar observation. Animation showing highlights of solar observation by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) between 2010 when it was launched, and 2015. SDO images the solar atmosphere in many wavelengths, investigating the Sun's magnetic field, solar wind, and variations in the solar irradiance. The clip shows views of the solar surface, solar flares, coronal mass ejections (massive bursts of solar plasma from the Sun's outermost atmosphere), and sun spots.
