Caption

Carterfone computer terminal. US Navy pharmacist in the 1970s programming a computer with a cathode ray tube (CRT) conversational terminal and telephone hook-up (left), both from the Carterfone company. The device at left is an early form of modem. It was acoustically connected to the telephone network. The US Navy and its medical staff were one of the early adopters of such technology, with automated data processing (ADP) improving healthcare delivery systems. Photographed in 1974, at the Naval Medical Data Services Center, Bethesda, Maryland, USA.
