Leopard skin jasper is a siliceous rock, a chalcedony with a speckled or mottled appearance in hues varying from brown and green to yellowish red, somewhat like a leopard's skin. It is one of many varieties of jasper, a semi precious gemstone. Polished to a high gloss it is used in jewelry and also made into small bowls and other trinkets. Here seen is the polished surface of a rough stone about 160 mm wide.
