Kawasaki disease. Close-up of oedema (swelling) of the ear of a 6-year-old child with Kawasaki disease. This rare autoimmune disease mainly affects children under five. It causes the blood vessels to become inflamed leading to fever and generalised oedema. Little is known about the condition, but complications include heart disease and aneurysms. Aspirin has shown some efficacy as treatment.
