Heliozoa protozoan. Differential interference contrast (DIC) light micrograph of an heliozoa protozoan. Heliozoa are single-celled freshwater organisms with stiff arms (axopodia, hair-like) radiating from their spherical bodies. These axopodia are microtubule-supported projections used for capturing food, sensation, movement, and attachment. Magnification: x560 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
