The hypogeum (under stage area) of the Colosseum in Rome. The 83x48m arena was supported above the hypogeum, as depicted by the reconstruction in the background. Also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, the Colosseum was built between 72AD and 80AD and is the largest amphitheatre ever constructed. It is one of the main tourist attractions in Rome and in all of Italy.
