Vitamin B6. Artwork based on a polarised light micrograph of crystals of pyridoxine, also known as vitamin B6. This is one of the water-soluble B- complex vitamins which, although chemically unrelated, perform similar functions in the body and are found in common dietary sources. Vitamin B6 is used by the body to form pyridoxal phosphate, a co-enzyme involved in the metabolism of fatty acids. Deficiency of vitamin B6 is rare, as most foods such as vegetables, milk, eggs and meat contain suitable amounts.
