Indian lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) bud and flower. This aquatic plant is very rare or extinct in the wild, but it has been widely naturalised in southern Asia and Australia and is cultivated in water gardens. It is the national flower of India. The flowers, seeds, young leaves and rhizomes are all edible. Photographed in July.
