In the Evidence Processing Room of the Santa Ana, CA, Police Department's forensics laboratory, a technician brushes black fingerprint powder on a pistol used to commit a crime after cyanoacrylate fuming in an oven to detect latent fingerprints. Cyanoacrylate is warmed to produce fumes that react with the invisible fingerprint residues to form a white polymer (polycyanoacrylate) on the fingerprint ridges.
