Illustration of the Eastern Cottonmouth (Agkistrodon piscivorus piscivorus), a venomous pitviper found in the areas of the southeastern United States. Younger specimens have red to brown crossbands, with a lighter brown background (as seen in this illustration), but this Colouration darkens over time, with adults becoming completely black.
