Tagliamento river. Aerial view over the network of channels and colourful waters of the Tagliamento river, Friuli, Italy. The Tagliamento is the last wildwater river in the Alps. Its waters vary in colour between turquoise and emerald green due to the limestone gravel it transports from the Southern Alps to the Mediterranean Sea. The gravel is so luminous because it is permanently tossed by the river, which can reach up to 200 metres wide at some points.
