An illustrated view of the pancreas with an inset depicting branches of the pancreatic duct and clusters of cells known as the islets of Langerhans. The pancreatic duct (yellow) transports digestive enzymes secreted by pancreatic acini to the small intestine to aid in digestion. The islets of Langerhans are large spherical clusters of cells in the pancreas which secrete vital hormones, such as insulin and glucagon, directly into the blood.
