Magnesium hydroxide precipitate. Left test tube: 0.2M solution of magnesium chloride (MgCl2). Right test tube: magnesium chloride with a few drops of a 1M solution of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) which forms magnesium hydroxide precipitate (Mg(OH)2). The reaction is MgCl2 + NaOH -> Mg(OH)2 + NaCl. This is an example of a double replacement reaction.
