Rhinovirus is the most common virus associated with the common cold, although over 200 different viral types may be responsible. Here, the airborne virus is shown entering a child's upper respiratory system. Symptoms such as headache, runny nose, cough and the generally miserable feeling are caused by the body's immune response rather than the virus itself.
