Little owls (Athene noctua), male and female outside their nest burrow. This owl is native to warmer parts of Europe, Asia and North Africa. It was introduced to the UK in the 19th century and is now naturalised there. It is a small owl, only around 25 centimetres in height, feeding on insects, earthworms and amphibians. Photographed in June, in Catalonia, Spain.
