Quantum physicists. From left to right: French physicist Alain Aspect (born 1947), Italian physicist Massimo Inguscio (born 1950), and French physicist Randall Hulet (born 1956). All three have worked on Bose–Einstein condensates, a state of matter that can arise when atoms are supercooled almost to absolute zero. They are in Varenna, Italy, taking part in the 2009 summer school of the International School of Physics 'Enrico Fermi'. They took part in Course 173 (Courso CLXXIII): 'Nano optics and atomics: transport of light and matter waves' at the Villa Monastero from 23 June to 3 July 2009. Photographed on 25 June 2009.
