Colostomy bag belt. Close-up of a belt used to secure a colostomy bag on the abdomen of a 27-year-old male patient with ulcerative colitis. Colostomy is a surgical procedure in which the bowel (intestine) is brought through the abdominal wall creating an artificial opening through which the intestine discharges. A colostomy bag is attached around the opening to hold the discharged contents. Belts and other devices can be used to help secure the bag in place.
