Test for carbon dioxide. The liquid in the test tube is a saturated solution of calcium hydroxide (limewater), which is colourless. When air is bubbled into it through a glass straw the carbon dioxide will turn the limewater cloudy. This is because calcium carbonate is precipitated out as a white suspended solid.
