Tadpole shrimp egg. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the egg of a tadpole shrimp (Triops cancriformis). Tadpole shrimp are broad, flattened branchiopod crustaceans that are considered living fossils, , having not changed significantly since the Triassic period. Triops cancriformis is found from Europe to the Middle East and India. This specimen measures 0.37mm across.
