Leptin molecule. Computer model of part of a molecule of leptin, a protein produced by white fat cells in adipose tissue. Leptin controls the amount of white adipose tissue that is laid down in the body, and acts on the brain as a signal to regulate appetite. Mutations in the gene (ob) that codes for leptin are thought to be responsible for some forms of obesity.
