Caption

Iodine starch test on different foods. Close-up footage of an iodine starch test being carried out on a range of food samples in a sample tray. If the iodine solution turns from orange to black, this is a positive result for starch. Starch is a carbohydrate that is used by plants as a store of energy, and hence is a source of energy in many plant-based foods. This test can be used on a range of starch-containing foods. The foods tested here include cereal, potato, rice, pasta, crisps, sugar, bread, and flour. Sugar does not contain starch and gives a negative result in this test.
