Balloon dilatation in venous thrombosis. Computer illustration of sections through a vein that has become narrowed (stenosed) due to a blood clot (thrombus, red), showing a balloon catheter (white) being used to dilate the blood vessel. During this procedure, known as an angioplasty, the balloon catheter is inserted into the affected area of the vessel and inflated to widen it and restore blood flow. The catheter is then removed.
