European axes, Early to Late Bronze Age. Five axes showing the progression in hafting design from Early to Middle to Late Bronze Age periods in Western Europe. This covers a range from approximately 2500 BC to 500 BC. From left is a flat celt, a flanged flat celt, a stopped palstave, a socketed celt (with atavistic pattern to mimic an earlier winged palstave) and finally a socketed axe with decoration.
