Caption

Six late bronze age European socketed axes from about 1100 BC to 600 BC. All but one are looped as a method to tie the head onto the handle. Not all of these axes would have been working axes for cutting or weapon use. Some may have served a currency or votive purpose or merely to signify rank or wealth of the owner.
