Ophthalmoscopic view of a retina showing the damage caused by a branch retinal vein occlusion, a blockage of one of the small retinal veins. The retina is the light sensitive membrane at the back of the eye. At right is the optic disc (yellow), where the blood vessels enter the eye. The dark areas at upper left are damage to the retina due to the blocked blood vessel. This damage causes visual loss and can lead to blindness.
