Kaposi's sarcoma. Purpuraceous macules on the upper and lower extremities of a middle-aged man in a case of Kaposi's sarcoma. Kaposi's sarcoma is a relatively rare malignant skin tumour, which results in purple-coloured plaques that eventually form nodules. It is a type of malignant neoplasm formed by proliferation of abnormal vascular endothelial cells. In AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome), this cancer often spreads to other tissues and can be rapidly fatal.
