Caption

An American gas pump, or petrol pump, outside the Rail Haven Motel on Route 66 in Springfield, Missouri, which is recognised as the birthplace of Route 66 because the highway's routing and number was proposed there in 1926. Ethyl was a proprietary 'anti-knock' fuel additive.
