Serum albumin. Computer artwork showing the secondary structure of human serum albumin (spirals). Albumin is the most abundant protein in human blood plasma. It is seen here complexed with levoroxine, an anabolic steroid. One of albumin's functions is to bind to molecules, including calcium, some hormones and drugs, to prevent them from being filtered from the blood by the kidneys. Albumin is also important in regulating plasma volume.
