Caption

Concave and convex mirrors. Animation showing a mirror varying in curvature, from concave to convex and back to concave. The image in a convex mirror is smaller and not reversed. The image in a concave mirror varies depending on the distance to the object (or in this case the varying curvature). When the mirror changes from convex to concave, the image starts off magnified and upright. Then the image briefly disappears. The image then reappears flipped vertically and magnified, diminishing as the concave curvature increases. The reverse happens when moving from maximum concavity towards convexity. The words 'mirror reflection' and the silver and gold tubes show how the image changes as the mirror changes from concave to convex and back to concave.
