Mass loss in carbonate-acid reaction. Footage of a stopwatch (left) and a mass balance being used to measure the decrease in mass over time during the reaction between calcium carbonate and a concentrated acid. Carbon dioxide gas is produced and bubbles out of the liquid (as seen here), causing an observed decrease in mass over a period of 30 seconds.
