Frontonia. Light microscope footage of ciliate protozoan Frontonia sp. Frontonia are abundant in aquatic environments worldwide. They move by the rhythmic beating of many hair-like cilia, feeding mainly on diatoms, algae and amoeba. These are digested within temporary digestive vacuoles which float within the cell cytoplasm. Filmed with differential interference contrast illumination.
