Coxsackie B virus. Rotating animation of a molecular surface model of a coxsackie B virus, one of six serotypes of cytolytic enteroviruses responsible for illnesses ranging from gastrointestinal upset, to severe pericarditis and myocarditis. An infected individual may experience fever, sore throat, gastrointestinal distress or chest and muscle pain. Coxsackie B viruses can resist most forms of treatment and can spread via the faecal-oral route by consuming contaminated food and water or as a result of poor sanitation.
