Light microscopy of human oral cavity epithelial cells (purple) with thousands of adherent rod-shaped bacteria. Bacteria are normally found in abundance in the mouth and cling to teeth, gums, and soft tissue. Streptococcus is but one of dozens and possibly hundreds of different microorganisms resident in the oral cavity. Magnification x480 when printed at 10 cm.
