Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. Spanish moss (Tillandsia usneoides) hanging from trees lining the Suwannee Canal in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, Folkston, Georgia, USA. This wildlife reserve was established in 1937 and covers an area of 1,772 square kilometres. The Suwannee Canal was dug across the swamp in the 19th century in an unsuccessful attempt to drain the Okefenokee.
