Caption

This massive block of sandstone has been pried loose from the mother rock here exploited in a quarry near Gildehaus, west Germany. To that purpose use is made of a substance that has been injected into boreholes and that will swell up after some time, thus forcing the block to break off. The rock here is to be cut by saw into construction blocks for restoration of historic buildings.
