Metro carriage disinfection. Ultraviolet lamps being used to disinfect metro train carriages. Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) is a disinfection method that uses short-wavelength ultraviolet (uv) light to kill or inactivate microorganisms. The uv light destroys the organisms' nucleic acids and disrupts their DNA, rendering them harmless.
