Osteoclasts in bone lacunae, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). These osteoclasts are seen in Howslips lacunae, spaces in the bone where they are responsible for remodeling the bone surface. Osteoclasts remodel bone by degrading and reabsorbing it in response to growth or changing mechanical stress. Magnification: x2700 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
