Schiaparelli crater, Mars. Computer artwork of the impact crater (upper centre) named after the Italian astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli (1835-1910). It is located on Mars at latitude 3 degrees South and longitude 344 degrees, and has a diameter of about 461 kilometres. The whole region is heavily cratered, which is typical of most of the southern hemisphere of the planet.
