Dogfish liver area. Light micrograph of a transverse section through the body of a lesser spotted dogfish (Scyliorhinus canicula), in the region of the liver (lower frame). At top, are the muscle blocks or myotomes (stripped pink) which surround the nerve cord (top circle) under which is the notocord. Most of the body cavity is filled by the liver (pink, U-shaped), with the central area containing the pyloric region of the stomach (folded pink area with cavities) and the spleen (dark purple area above stomach). The pectoral fins are at lower left and lower right. Magnification: x14 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
