Foot skin tissue. Light micrograph of a transverse section through skin from a human foot. The skin is made up of an outer epidermis (across top). Below this is the living layer of the dermis, which consists of collagen and elastic fibres and a fat layer at its base (bottom). Blood vessels in the dermis form capillary loops under the epidermis. Magnification: x14 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
