Moriche palms (Mauritia flexuosa). This plant grows in and near swamps and other wet areas in tropical South America. It bears an edible fruit, called aguaje, which is used by locals to make juice, jam, ice cream and a fermented alcoholic drink. Photographed at a lagoon near Tiputini Biodiversity Station in Quito, Ecuador.
